American Red Cross, Central Illinois Chapter

The American Red Cross provides emergency services for those affected by disasters such as house fire and other natural disasters. Health and safety courses include first aid, CPR, water safety, AIDS education, disaster education and prevention; speakers are also available on these topics. Military services include relaying emergency messages between military personnel on active duty and their families as well as assistance with emergency leaves. International services provide communication with persons of refugee or prisoner-of-war status.

Crisis Line

The Crisis Line provides telephone support and referral to area residents 24 hours a day. Trained personnel provide services to callers who are experiencing personal, relationship or mental health crises, including suicidal thoughts.

Crisis Nursery

The Crisis Nursery is a child abuse and neglect prevention program offering family support programs through short term emergency child care available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for children 5 years of age and younger. Criteria: Parents have emergency or crisis due to stress,medical, environmental situations and have no other resources available. Children can stay at the Nursery for up to 72 hours. Other services offered to clients are Parent Support Groups in Rantoul and Champaign, Parent-Child Interaction Groups, Parent Education Groups as well as resources, referrals , crisis intervention and 24 hour phone accessibility.

Family Service, First Call for Help

First Call for Help provides information about community resources, and referral and advocacy for those needing services from other agencies, as well as assessment of client needs for other agencies upon their request and coordination of charitable donations. It also provides limited emergency assistance when available to qualifying individuals, including referral to food pantries, rent, utility (power only) bill and prescription assistance up to $25. It publishes the print version of the Help Book annually, with the C-U Public Health District and the United Way. An expanded version of the Help Book is available on-line at www.famservcc.org and at www.helpsource.org. Roundhouse

Roundhouse provides short-term housing, stabilization, and support for youth in crisis; 24-hour crisis line and referrals. Elgibility: Youth ages 10-17 experiencing crisis: runaways, homeless, near homeless, or youth with problems with school, drugs, sex, peers, abuse/neglect affecting their placement stability.
