SNAP retailers and low-income households

A  look at all the retailers accepting food stamp benefits - also known as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits - in relation to households that make less than $30,000.

In addition to traditional supermarkets and grocery stores, retailers such as Wal-Greens, Dollar General and gas station convenience stores also accept SNAP benefits. While this helps provide SNAP customers with more accessibility to food, health officials worry that there is a lack of access to nutritional food choices.

Recently, local farmer's markets have started to accept SNAP benefits via Link cards, which are used much like a debit card. (See related blog here)
