Champaign County TRIAD/S.A.L.T 911 Phones for Seniors

A program to provide free cell phones for emergency 911 calls. The program will collect and distribute donated cell phones to people over age 55. Seniors can then call the local emergency 911 dispatch center with their free cell phones at no charge. Local law enforcement agencies are cooperating in the project. Seniors interested in obtaining a free emergency cell phone can call the Senior Information Line 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday to apply for a phone. Arrangements can be made to pick up the phones at the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) at the Stevick Senior Center in Champaign or to have them delivered by a police officer or sheriff's deputy, depending on the availability of officers at the time of the request. Seniors will be contacted for distribution arrangements as cell phones become available
