Dozens of residents moved from the property as part of a redevelopment plan from the Housing Authority of Champaign County. The property has since been demolished. Housing authority officials have confirmed that they are holding dozens of housing vouchers in reserve for redevelopment projects that include Dorsey Homes. Housing advocates say that the vouchers should be distributed now to assist the more than 400 families on a waiting list for housing assistance.

Retired and married for 59 years, Dave, 85, and Florene, 86, find themselves with endless amounts of time on their hands. From volunteering at church activities to dining with close friends to daily walking exercises, the couple continues to remain active within their community to "pass the time away," Florene said. However, on a calm, chilly Thursday, Dave and Florene Smith head over to Tumble Inn Tavern in downtown Champaign in place of their walking routine.
